Julius Curry

S | (0-0, 200) | Michigan
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Redshirted in 1998, played in nine games in '99, started all but one game in '00 and the first four games in '01 before a shoulder injury caused him to miss the next seven games. Recorded nine stops in '99; 59 tackles, four passes broken up and two interceptions in '00; and 11-1-0 in '01, when he also returned 19 punts for 213 yards. Made only one start in eight games in '02 and had 13 tackles with two interceptions and broke up two passes. Returned 12 punts for a total of 273 yards.

Positives: Curry was basically a running back in high school and still is learning how to play defense. Has the traits to be a good NFL safety. Is tough and athletic, works hard, studies film and appears to have the feet and change of direction to cover man-to-man. He has good hands, is physical and can cover in zone. Decent return skills.

Negatives: Is not a wrap-up tackler and misses too many tackles. Goes for the ball instead of wrapping. Will overrun plays consistently and doesn't break down well. Missed time with injuries.

Summary: Has the athleticism to contribute when healthy, but a team will have to give him a shot and bring him along slowly to allow him to learn the intricacies of the safety position.
