Eric Manning

NT | (0-0, 303) | Oregon State
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Backup in 1999 and started every game in 2000 and '01. Had 15 tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack in '99; 31-13-2 in 2000; and 28-6-3 in '01, when he was awarded All-Pacific-10 honors. Started 13-of-13 games in '02, making 40-14-21.

Positives: Has OK initial quickness and football intelligence. Can play low with leverage, pop into blockers and hustle and chase. Determined and durable. Made 23 straight starts. Has good balance and an OK spin move. Square, wide and well-built. Has a good offseason work ethic and a feel for blocking schemes. When he stays low, he has good quickness and athletic ability and some anchor. Playmaker.

Negatives: Height is a concern. Does not shed or play the run well and struggles closing on the quarterback. Has average agility and is not sudden. May have OK football intelligence but is a marginal student. He must pop up and find the ball better. Better in the weight room than on the field and does not have great play strength. Has very short arms and can't two-gap. Gets mauled and pops up at times and struggles handling size. Isn't that powerful or sudden inside and struggles to come off blocks.

Summary: A NT-DT type, who may only fit in one-gap schemes and may lack size and strength for the next level, but will be considered on the second day because of his intensity and hustle.
