By Pro Football WeeklyNotes: Four-sport (basketball, football, baseball and track) athlete in high school. Walked on and redshirted as a tight end in 1998. Started every game at left tackle in '99. Started the 2000 opener at left tackle and games Two through 12 at left guard. Started every game at center in '01 and '02 and had a steady Senior Bowl performance. One of three finalists for the Rimington Award.Positives: Smart, versatile, durable and athletic offensive lineman with quick feet. Very alert and shows good instincts. Good feet and reaction. Takes good angles and gets good fits. Has good lateral slide and can redirect. Can play center, guard, tackle and tight end. Negatives: Lack of bulk size and strength are concerns, but has gained 20 pounds since the end of the season. Does too much catching and absorbing and not enough with his hands. Helped greatly by zone-blocking system. Gets stalemated too often and may need help with a big man playing over him. Can improve upper-body strength.Summary: Because of his intellect, Nelson will be expected to acclimate quickly and can be used at a variety of positions but needs to get much, much stronger to have a great future in the NFL.* Player biographies are provided by Pro Football Weekly.
