Marquel Blackwell QB | (0-0, 205) | South Florida By Pro Football WeeklyNotes: Redshirted in 1998. Signed in '97 but didn't enroll until '98 so he wouldn't be a partial qualifier. Started the last nine games in '99 and every game in 2000 and '01. Completed 136-of-262 for 1,620 yards with 16 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 1999 and rushed 93 times for 126 yards with three touchdowns. In 2000, he completed 171-296-2,106-13-4 and rushed 128-556-3. In '01, completed 258-456-2,882-20-11 and ran 92-241-9. Was almost a one-man offense in '01. Four-year starter who led the Bulls to a 9-2 record in '02 and was named Independent Player of the Year by ESPN. Started all 11 games, completing 230-403-2,590-18-3 and running 89-302-5. Set 19 school records. Ended the season with a string of 235 consecutive passes without an interception the second-longest streak in NCAA Division I-A history (Trent Dilfer, 271).Positives: Good leader and athlete who studies tape and has good football intelligence. Adequate, but not special arm. Durable. Slides when he feels pressure. Anticipates and looks for secondary receivers. Has poise and a good delivery but has a small, winding, overhand delivery. Productive college player with quick feet and the ability to buy time with his feet. Negatives: Does not have ideal size or good touch on his deep ball. Short and has balls batted down. Throws a lot of tipped balls from the pocket and rolls out a lot. Throws better from outside the pocket where he sees better. Average arm strength, accuracy and touch. Summary: Some liken him to Shaun King, who has a similar build and skills.* Player biographies are provided by Pro Football Weekly.
