D. Bryant

QB | (0-0, 218) | Iowa Wesleyan
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Played junior-varsity football at Duke in 1998 and also played with the basketball team after the season. Was not in the program in '99 (academics). Rejoined the team in the spring of 2000 and wound up starting the last seven games. Completed 129-of-258 passes for 1,448 yards with five touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Also ran the ball 79 times for minus-96 yards and a touchdown and caught two passes for 29 yards and a touchdown. Started every game in '01, but completion percentage dropped to 48.7 percent. Completed 187-384-2,454-11-17. Also ran 33-15-3. Academically ineligible to play at Duke in '02. Transferred to Iowa Wesleyan, where he was immediately eligible to play but only played one game before he was declared ineligible by NAIA. Threw for 313 yards and five touchdowns in his only game.

Positives: Good athlete with a quick release. Adequate to adequate-plus arm strength. Darts the ball when he is under pressure. Shows good ability to avoid the rush in the pocket. Has been durable and is well-built. Can throw a beautiful deep ball.

Negatives: Has problems locating secondary receivers. Lacks accuracy and anticipation. Will often fail to set his feet when throwing, and as a result will overthrow the ball. Is not accurate, especially on the move. Has had too much academic trouble.

Summary: Did not get the chance he was hoping for in '02, when he needed a great senior year to be drafted, considering the type of competition he was to face. If he improves accuracy, could still be worthy of a free-agent deal.
