Ovie Mughelli

RB | (0-0, 255) | Wake Forest
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Name is pronounced "OH-vee muy-HAY-lee." Has gained 42 pounds of solid weight since he enrolled in 1998. Played in nine games in '99 and carried 16 times for 80 yards. Started eight of 11 in 2000, carried 40-128 and one touchdown and made his first catch, although it was for zero yards. Used as an "I" fullback and tight end in '01 and started six games. Did not carry the ball but caught 7-53. Rushed 81-322-12 and caught 10-111-0 in '02.

Positives: A big, physical, blocking back who can play some tight end in a two-TE set. Has a burst out of set and to the point of attack, keeps his pads low and can slide. Is a sturdy blocker who can extend and catch away from the frame of his body but will drop some passes. Jars defenders with his initial hit at times and will finish his blocks when he hits cleanly.

Negatives: Needs to gear down and adjust better as a blocker. Doesn't show much as a ballcarrier and looks uncomfortable in the open field. Lacks upper-body strength from not bench-pressing, which no one does in Wake Forest's strength progam. Lacks great flexibility. Will fall off of blocks and doesn't change directions well.

Summary: Mughelli can run out of a power formation, but he is a pure fullback and one of the best in the draft.
