Quincy Washington

RB | (0-0, 205) | Illinois State
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Went to Illinois as a defensive back and to run track in 1998 and redshirted. Was a reserve in '99 and 2000 before transferring to I-AA Illinois State, but had several off-the-field problems at Illinois. Was convicted on charges of alcohol possession by a minor Oct. 24, 1998 in which court documents said he was the "driver of a stopped car." Was later arrested for DUI in a separate incident and arrested in April of his freshman year for felony aggravated battery, in which a police report stated he punched a female acquaintance in the head, and pushed others. Started one of nine games in '01 and rushed 82 times for 479 yards and seven touchdowns. Also caught 13 passes for 110 yards. Started all 11 games in '02, when he averaged 105 rushing yards, carrying 254-1,158-9 and catching 7-71-0. Was second-team All-Gateway Conference. Different style than former ISU RB Aveion Cason, but similar production.

Positives: Good combination of track speed and power. Productive in his only year as a starter. Runs hard, especially near the goal line. Doesn't dance, but runs in north-south lanes. Has good upper and lower-body strength and a solid frame. Has football intelligence. Rarely used as a receiver out of the backfield, other than screen passes, because he is very polished in pass protection. Will run over linebackers and defensive backs. Durable. Can return kicks.

Negatives: Doesn't have great quickness in the open field. Is not a great receiver out of the backfield but can catch. Could improve quickness by picking up his feet when he runs. Will thump defender before running around or making him miss.

Summary: Might be worth a shot as a free agent kick returner, specialist or trying him at cornerback if he didn't have so much baggage.
