Redshirted in 1998. Caught two passes for 55 yards in '99; 1-23 with a touchdown in 2000; and 24-413-5 in '01. Caught 31-518-6 in '02, earning first-team All-Mideastern Athletic Conference honors. Opened a lot of eyes at his workout, and some NFL clubs moved him from a priority free agent to a first-day type after he ran a 4.58, a 39½-inch vertical and pushed up 225 pounds 28 times  all tops among tight ends tested at the Scouting Combine. Positives: Looks the part, with good size, speed and strength. Makes tough catches and wants the ball. Heads upfield after catches. Makes effort to block and can be a Velcro blocker (tough for defender to get off). Sustains blocks when he stays on his feet. Negatives: Is very raw and needs to add weight. Not very quick or nifty when it comes to running routes. Initial quickness and change-of-direction skills are lacking. Tries to block but is not overpowering. Is late off the ball and tends to get too upright. Can't consistently beat the jam.
