Sam Collins

WR | (0-0, 175) | Alabama
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Redshirted in 1998. Played in every game and started once in '99. Started six games in 2000 and two games in '01, sharing time both years. Had rotator-cuff surgery after the '01 season, when he caught 18 passes for 252 yards and four touchdowns, but came back to start and had his best season in '02, catching 35-553-3. Had 5-25-0 in 1999 and 15-123-0 in 2000.

Positives: Good height, very good hands and good speed. Very hard worker. Will play through pain. Improved a lot and stepped up in '02.

Negatives: Almost rail thin, and his durability and ability to take a pounding are concerns. Is not built for strength, and bigger, more physical corners really can control him with jams and by redirecting him. A little straight-linish and does not explode into and out of his breaks. Is not a kick returner.

Summary: Possible late-round pick or priority free agent with a chance to make an NFL team if he can be an asset on special teams as a kick-cover guy.
