Wilson Thomas

WR | (0-0, 207) | Nebraska
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: High school track star with personal-best long jump of 23 feet and 6-7 in the high jump. Lettered four years in basketball and didn't join the football team until his junior year of high school. Two-sport athlete at Nebraska and is a top backup on the basketball team. Football redshirt in 1998. Started twice in '99 but did not catch a pass. Also had two starts in 2000 and had his first catch for eight yards. Started 11-of-12 games in '01 at split end and led the team with 37-613-3. Caught 27-319-3 in '02 and had one carry for nine yards.

Positives: Is a tremendous athlete with great size, athleticism and good hands. He can adjust to the ball and is best as a short to intermediate receiver. Will lay out for the ball and is in great physical shape. Is a tenacious blocker who wants to be physical with cornerbacks. Uses his big body to shield defenders from the ball and has strong hands.

Negatives: Lacks overall experience at his position. Can be a loner and aloof. His blocking, while it can be great, is very, very inconsistent. Has average quickness and is not real sudden off the line of scrimmage or into and out of his breaks. Needs a good deal of work on his route running. Doesn't have deep speed, double catches and drops the ball. Relies too much on his size.

Summary: Unpolished, very athletic receiver who could be a second-day pick if he improves his speed.
