Andrei Svechnikov, ESPN's No. 2 prospect for the NHL Draft, said he looked up to Pavel Bure as a kid growing up in Russia. He believes he can play a top six role as soon as next season in the NHL. It appears likely he will go second overall to the Carolina Hurricanes. Svechnikov visited the Canes in Raleigh soon after the NHL Scouting Combine and left feeling he had a good meeting with the organization.

Czech winger Filip Zadina, ESPN's No. 3 ranked prospect for the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, shared his thoughts on rumors he could slide further down the draft than previously expected: "Sometimes I'd be tagged in a tweet and I'd read it. Sometimes I was laughing. I saw one that [had him ranked] ninth place. It's a draft, so maybe I fall, but I don't think so." Zadina sounds confident he will be picked either by the Montreal Canadiens at No. 3 or the Ottawa Senators at No. 4, which coincidentally (or not) are the only two teams he follows on Instagram, as was pointed out to him during his pre-draft press conference.
When the Islanders hired Lou Lamoriello, the word "stability" was thrown around a lot. But that stability now extends to signing Stanley Cup champion coach Barry Trotz to a long-term deal. He's made the playoffs in 11 out of the last 14 seasons. This is a massive bat signal to the rest of the league, and John Tavares, that things are different.
