The U.S. Olympic women's hockey team's gold medal win over Canada has led to golden sales of Team USA merchandise. According to Fanatics, Team USA's official ecommerce partner, sales of U.S. Olympic hockey merchandise has spiked over 500 percent since their shootout win. More Team USA hockey merchandise was sold on Thursday than in the previous seven days combined. There have also been new products launched – shirts that read "ICE GOLD" in honor of their win. "We were well prepared for this surge with new gold medal products and a large Team USA hockey assortment, but as strong as hockey merchandise has been selling throughout the games, what we've seen the past 24 hours is better than any one-day spike throughout these Pyeongchang Games," said Jack Boyle, Fanatics co-president, direct-to-consumer business.

Commissioner Gary Bettman said that the NHL and the Florida Panthers consulted both the Vegas Golden Knights and the Boston Bruins ahead of the Panthers' home game on Thursday night, where they honored the victims of last week's shooting at nearby Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. Both of those cities had games after their own local tragedies: The Boston Marathon bombing in 2013 and the shooting that left 58 people dead in Las Vegas last year. "I can't begin to say how horrific the whole situation was in Parkland, and was in Las Vegas. While I'm typically more articulate than this, this hits too raw a nerve," said Bettman. "Sports leagues can be a source of comfort and help in tragic times. The problem is we're seeing too many tragic times. It's horrific."
