The NHL's one-game suspension for Vancouver Canucks defenseman Erik Gudbranson, for boarding Boston's Frank Vatrano on Thursday, makes sense. But some fans are asking why Zack Kassian of the Oilers didn't get a hearing for his brutal hit on Chicago's Ryan Hartman that night, which earned him a boarding minor. The Dept. of Player Safety looked at it, and determined it was a hit to Hartman's side rather than the numbers, as Hartman "opened up" into the hit. A penalty, for sure, but nothing suspension worthy for Kassian, which was the right call.
