Antropov, Moore to be held out of tonight's game ... trade in works?

March, 3, 2009

We have some news out of Leaf Land. Nik Antropov and Dominic Moore will be held out of Toronto's lineup Tuesday night against the Devils, a clear sign that trades are in the works.

There was hope the Leafs might sign Moore to a contract extension, but talks broke off Tuesday with both sides about $600,000 apart on a yearly salary. He'll try his luck on the free-agent market July 1. He has had a real solid season with the Leafs, having finally been given a chance to prove himself. We believe the Chicago Blackhawks should take a long look at him. Great pickup as a No. 3 center.

It's no surprise that Antropov, who will be an unrestricted free agent July 1, will be dealt. GM Brian Burke had no desire to keep him. We wonder whether Columbus might be a good fit for him.

We'd also wondered whether the Jackets would have an interest in any of the forwards put on waivers Tuesday, such as Brendan Morrison or Miroslav Satan, but the answer we got was no.
