Sadly the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety missed the mark badly by suspending Detroit's Gustav Nyquist for just six games for his brutal stick to the face of Minnesota's Jared Spurgeon in a clear case of retaliation. The league acknowledged the result could have been career threatening and yet because Spurgeon wasn't seriously injured and Nyquist has no history of this type of behavior the league declined to make a strong statement in giving a suspension half what the act warranted.
