Grier docked game's pay for elbowing

Washington Capitals: Forward Mike Grier was suspended for one game by the NHL on Tuesday for elbowing Toronto's Robert Reichel.

Grier hit Reichel in the corner with 2:45 remaining in
regulation of a 2-2 tie Monday night and received a two-minute
elbowing minor.

Grier, who will lose $9,066.66, will miss Tuesday's game at
Montreal and is eligible to return Friday against Dallas.

Colorado Avalanche: The Avs' power play has struck fear in opponents. Colorado has scored six goals in the season's first two games,
three of them on the power play.

The first unit, made up of defenseman Rob Blake and forwards Peter Forsberg, Joe Sakic, Milan Hejduk and Paul Kariya -- all of them Olympians with a combined 33 All-Star Game appearances -- is flying. Kariya is adapting to his new role at left point, where he can
use his speed to keep the puck in the offensive zone and his
passing ability to set up teammates.

"It's a good spot," Kariya said. "You can see a lot and make
plays from there. It's a matter of getting used to all five guys
and making plays without thinking."
