Wild claim Wiemer off waivers

Minnesota Wild: The Wild claimed center Jason Wiemer
off waivers from the New York Islanders on Thursday.

Wiemer had four points in 13 games with the Islanders this
season.

The 6-foot-1, 225-pound forward totaled 28 points last season
and ranked second on the team with 116 penalty minutes.

The native of Kimberley, British Columbia, has recorded 180
points and 1,211 penalty minutes in 615 career NHL games with Tampa
Bay, Calgary, Florida and New York.

Wiemer was selected by Tampa Bay in the first round of the 1994
draft.

Atlanta Thrashers: The Thrashers recalled forward Bill Lindsay from Chicago of the AHL on Thursday.

Lindsay, who signed with Atlanta in August as an unrestricted
free agent, has nine points in 13 games with Chicago.

Last season, Lindsay split time between the Montreal Canadiens
and Hamilton of the AHL. He had two assists and 23 penalty minutes
with the Canadiens, and finished with 10 goals and three assists in
23 playoff games with Hamilton.

San Jose Sharks: Left wing Scott Thornton agreed to a
two-year contract extension on Thursday.

Thornton, an eight-year veteran, has nine points and 30 penalty
minutes this season.

"He's an important part of this team in the present and the
future, not only with his skating and physical presence but he's
taken on a leadership role," Sharks GM Doug Wilson said. "I don't
want to say he is just scratching the surface, because he's had
some pretty good years, but there is another level to his game."

Thornton played in his 700th NHL game Tuesday against Colorado.
He has 113 goals, 225 points and 1,197 penalty minutes in his
career.
