Kings defenseman Miller has hip surgery

LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles Kings defenseman Aaron Miller
underwent successful hip surgery on Wednesday.

The procedure to remove a bone spur and repair a torn labrum was
performed by hip specialist Dr. Carlos Guanche.

Los Angeles' assistant captain, Miller has been out since March
29 and has missed 23 games this season with a back injury.

Miller, who missed 80 games over the previous two seasons with
injuries, was placed on injured reserve on December 29 with back
spasms. He suffered the injury eight days earlier in Los
Angeles' 5-2 victory at Calgary and was sidelined for 16

A fifth-round pick of the New York Rangers in 1989, Miller was
acquired from Colorado in February 2001 in the deal that sent
Rob Blake to the Avalanche. He matched a career high with five
goals in 74 games during his first full season with the Kings in
2001-02 but has been plagued by injuries ever since, including
a fractured wrist, a broken left foot and an abdominal ailment
that required surgery.

Miller, a 34-year-old native of Buffalo, New York, was named to
the United States Olympic Team on December 19.

Miller has collected eight assists and 27 penalty minutes in 56
games this season and recorded 24 goals and 78 assists in 538
