Sharks ink defenseman Traverse for one year

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The San Jose Sharks on Monday
signed veteran defenseman Patrick Traverse to a one-year

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Traverse spent the majority of last season with the Iowa Stars
of the American Hockey League, recording three goals and 21
assists in 40 games. He appeared in just one game with the
Dallas Stars.

A third-round pick of the Ottawa Senators in 1992, Traverse has
14 goals and 51 assists in 279 career NHL games with Ottawa,
Anaheim, Boston, Montreal and Dallas.

The Sharks on Monday also signed right wing Matthieu Darche.

Terms were not disclosed.

Darche spent last season with Duisburg of the German Elite
League, totaling 12 goals and 13 assists in 52 games.

Darche has just two points and 26 penalty minutes in 26 career
NHL games with Columbus and Nashville.
