Coyotes sign AHL MVP MacLean to two-year deal

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Don MacLean, the most valuable player in the AHL last season, signed a two-year contract Monday with the Phoenix Coyotes.

MacLean had 56 goals and 32 assists for the Grand Rapids Griffins with five hat tricks, the most by an AHL player in one season since 2000.

In three NHL games with the Detroit Red Wings, the 29-year-old MacLean had a goal and assist.

MacLean was a second-round draft pick of Los Angeles in 1995 and has played in 32 NHL games over five seasons with the Kings, Toronto, Columbus and Detroit. He has seven career NHL goals and four assists.
