Ladd recovering after emergency appendectomy

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Carolina Hurricanes forward Andrew Ladd is
recovering from an emergency appendectomy, the team said Friday.

Ladd underwent the procedure Thursday at Rex Hospital in
Raleigh, and the left wing is at home recovering, general manager
Jim Rutherford said before the Hurricanes' game against the Toronto
Maple Leafs.

The 21-year-old Ladd was the Hurricanes' first-round draft pick
in 2004 and is in his second season with the team. He has three
goals, two assists and 23 penalty minutes in 27 games this season.

The Hurricanes recalled forward Keith Aucoin from their American
Hockey League affiliate in Albany to fill Ladd's roster spot.
Aucoin is joining Carolina for the second time this season. He
played in one game during his first recall in October and has one
assist in eight career NHL games.
