Flyers acquire Meszaros from Lightning

The Philadelphia Flyers acquired defenseman Andrej Meszaros on Thursday from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for a 2012 second-round draft pick.

The Flyers also signed defenseman Braydon Coburn to a two-year contract extension.

A source told ESPN.com the team also locked up free-agent winger Jody Shelley, who posted nine points in 57 games last season with the New York Rangers.

Coburn, a restricted free agent, had five goals and 14 assists last year for the Flyers.

Meszaros had six goals and 11 assists with the Lightning.

Meszaros has four years left on his deal at a cap hit of $4 million a season, although he will earn $5.5 million in actual salary in 2013-14, the last season of his current contract.

Later in the day, the team announced the signing of free-agent defenseman Sean O'Donnell to a one-year deal.

O'Donnell posted 15 points and 70 penalty minutes in 78 games with the Los Angeles Kings this past season.

Pierre LeBrun covers the NHL for ESPN.com. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
