Bob Hartley to coach Zurich Lions

ZURICH -- Stanley Cup-winning coach Bob Hartley has been appointed coach of the Zurich Lions.

The Swiss club says the 50-year-old Canadian has agreed to a two-year contract.

Hartley led the Colorado Avalanche to the Stanley Cup in 2001 during a four-year run in Denver. He also coached the Atlanta Thrashers from 2003-07.

At Zurich, Hartley replaces Bengt-Ake Gustafsson, who coached Sweden's gold medal-winning team at the 2006 Turin Olympics.

Zurich became European champion by winning the inaugural Champions Hockey League in 2009. However, the team has been eliminated in the first round of the Swiss League playoffs the past two seasons.
