WASHINGTON -- The New York Rangers did not have their captain in the lineup Wednesday night for Game 1 of their Eastern Conference quarter-final series with the Washington Capitals. Chris Drury took the pre-game warm-up but left midway through leading many to wonder if he was going to play. He's not.

Drury rested four days and missed the team's regular-season finale at Philadelphia with an undisclosed injury. He returned to practice Tuesday and also skated briefly, for about five minutes, Wednesday morning.

Drury is a huge loss. He was fourth on the team in scoring this season with 56 points and is a mainstay on the power play and penalty kill.

Enforcer Donald Brashear and defenseman Brian Pothier are Washington's scratches.

But defenseman Tom Poti and forward Boyd Gordon are in uniform for the Capitals after missing the end of the regular season with injuries.
