Penguins center Kevin Porter to miss 12 weeks with ankle injury

Pittsburgh Penguins center Kevin Porter will be out 12 weeks -- effectively the remainder of the season -- after undergoing ankle surgery Friday morning, coach Mike Sullivan said.

Porter suffered the injury when his right leg was pinned against the boards after falling during the Penguins' 4-1 victory against the Rangers on Thursday.

"It's a longer-term injury probably around the 12-week mark," coach Mike Sullivan said. "So it's a tough setback for him and for us."

In his first season with the Penguins Porter, 29, has three assists in 41 games.
