Kevin Porter suspended four games

The NHL suspended Colorado Avalanche forward Kevin Porter four games without pay for kneeing Vancouver Canucks forward David Booth on Tuesday.

Porter was given a major penalty and a game misconduct for the hit.

Porter will lose $18,378.36. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

He will be able to return Dec. 17 against Washington.

Booth sprained a ligament in his right knee and is expected to be sidelined for 4-to-6 weeks.

Also Thursday, Buffalo forward Ville Leino was suspended without pay for one game for elbowing Philadelphia forward Matt Read on Wednesday night. The suspension will cost Leino $24,324.32.

No penalty was assessed on the third-period hit.
