Oilers extend GM Steve Tambellini

EDMONTON, Alberta -- The Edmonton Oilers and general manager Steve Tambellini have agreed on a contract extension.

Tambellini has been GM of the team since 2008.

He is looking for a new coach as Tom Renney's contract wasn't renewed after the season.

The Oilers haven't made the playoffs since reaching the Stanley Cup finals in 2006.

Edmonton has the first overall pick in the NHL draft later this month for the third straight year.

The Oilers selected Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Taylor Hall at No. 1 in the previous two drafts.
