Known as the Raleigh Entertainment and Sports Arena or ESA from 1999 to 2002, RBC Bank -- owned by the Royal Bank of Canada -- bought naming rights in 2002. In 2011, PNC Financial Services bought RBC Bank, and the home of the Carolina Hurricanes became PNC Arena. PNC Arena is well known across the NHL as one of the loudest buildings in hockey, and Hurricanes fans broke the professional sports record for crowd noise during the 2006 Stanley Cup finals, reaching 138 dB, according to the team. PNC Arena is located adjacent to North Carolina State football's Carter-Finley Stadium, near the university's main campus, and also serves as the home to the North Carolina State men's basketball team. In addition to hosting many well-known musical acts, PNC Arena has hosted WWE Events and the NCAA men's basketball first and second rounds. PNC Arena was also the site of the 2011 NHL All-Star Game.
