Pepsi Center opened in 1999, four years after the Avalanche moved from Quebec. The team played at McNichols Arena until Pepsi Center opened. The building's address was named after longtime Denver Nuggets trainer Robert "Chopper" Travaglini. For Avalanche games, there are 149 panes of half-inch thick glass and it takes a crew of eight people and two forklifts 45 minutes to set up the rink, according to the arena Web site. Pepsi Center is one of six buildings in the country that has a new dasher board system that helps cushion a player's impact when hitting the boards, according to the arena Web site. In 2001, the team hosted the NHL All-Star Game and also won the second of their Stanley Cups at Pepsi Center, beating New Jersey 3-1 in Game 7. Pepsi Center also is home to the NBA's Nuggets and the National Lacrosse League's Colorado Mammoth. Pepsi Center hosted the 2008 Democratic National Convention, the 2008 NCAA Frozen Four hockey championships and several well-known musical acts.
