HENLEY-ON-THAMES, England -- Olympic champion Wyatt Allen
won the Diamond Sculls title at the Henley Royal Regatta on Sunday,
while Trinity College captured the Temple Cup for student eights.
Allen, representing the Princeton Rowing Center, went up against
Australia's Charlie Palmer of the English club Cantabrigian in the
final. The American dominated throughout, leading from the start
and eventually winning by three lengths.
"It's great to win one of rowing's historic events, in fact
it's an honor," he said. "Winning the Olympics is special beyond
compare, but this is right up there, too."
Trinity College, from Hartford, Conn., beat Yale by three
lengths in the Temple Cup final. Although Trinity was down after
the first few strokes, it moved ahead at the quarter mile and went
on to the victory.
In the final of the Princess Elizabeth Cup for schoolboy eights,
St. Joseph's Preparatory School from Philadelphia lost to Eton
College by a length.
