Mayor wants Houston to contend for 2016 Games

HOUSTON -- Mayor Bill White says Houston will throw its hat
in the ring as a candidate to host the 2016 Olympics.

The city will submit its proposal later this month to the U.S. Olympic Committee. The committee must still decide whether
the United States will compete for the 2016 summer games.

"It's a big decision -- in part a decision based on the fact I
think we have a fairly viable shot at it," White told Houston
television station KRIV on Thursday.

White's decision comes one month after a delegation of the
Olympic committee visited five cities, including Houston, on a
fact-finding mission.
