PARK CITY, Utah -- Jeremy Bloom's comeback remained on track Tuesday when he earned a spot on the 2009 U.S. freestyle skiing team.
Bloom, who announced he was returning to freestyle skiing after spending two years trying to catch on as a receiver in the NFL, was one of 39 athletes added to the team Tuesday. If he stays with the comeback, he'll be trying to make his third Olympics.
The team includes a number of Olympians, including Jeret "Speedy" Petersen, Shannon Bahrke, Hannah Kearney and Emily Cook, who overcame devastating foot injuries to compete in the 2006 Games.
The 2010 Olympics in Vancouver will feature the debut of ski cross -- downhill racing over jumps and other terrain. Among those on the U.S. ski cross team is Daron Rahlves, a three-time Olympic downhiller who moved over to freestyle and won the X Games last year.
Freestyle season starts Thursday with a moguls competition in Meribel, France. The opener for aerials is Friday at Adventure Mountain, China, and the first ski cross event is Jan. 5 in Austria.
