USA Wrestling said in a statement Friday morning it has not yet received official word that the team will not be allowed to compete at the Freestyle World Cup in Iran later this month. On Friday morning an Iranian news outlet quoted the country's foreign ministry spokesman in saying that the 16th visit of American wrestlers to Iran had been opposed in response to President Donald Trump's executive order forbidding visas for Iranians. The US was scheduled to depart Feb. 8. "If these reports are true, USA Wrestling is extremely disappointed about this, which we believe would be an unacceptable situation," the US statement said. "Wrestling is about competition and goodwill though sport and is no place for politics."

USA Swimming and USOC announce sanctions for gas station incident in Rio. Ryan Lochte suspended 10 months, making him ineligible for 2017 World Championships. Also loses 25k gold medal bonus, athlete funding and is required to complete 20 hours of community service. Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger and Jimmy Feigen suspended four months without athlete funding. Bentz required to complete 10 hours of community service since he was underage and out past curfew in Rio. And none of the swimmers will be part of the US delegation that will visit the White House later this month. The sanctions have no bearing on the college eligibility of Bentz, who swims at Georgia, or Conger, a junior at Texas.
