Two-time national figure skating champion Gracie Gold announced Friday that she is withdrawing from the January 2018 U.S. Championships due to ongoing treatment for depression, anxiety and an eating disorder. In a statement emailed to members of the media, Gold said the decision "breaks my heart," but added, "I have not had adequate training time in order to perform at the level at which I want to. It pains me to not compete in this Olympic season, but I know it's for the best... I want to thank everyone for the ongoing love and support. It means the world to me." The U.S. championships are a key event for Olympic team selection.
