Diego Hypolito has knee surgery

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil -- Two-time world gymnastics champion Diego Hypolito of Brazil had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and won't be able to practice for 30 days.

The Brazilian Olympic Committee says the surgery Monday to repair Hypolito's meniscus went as planned.

Doctor Wagner Castropil said they decided to conduct the surgery because the simple procedure didn't require a lot of recovery time and should remove the pain that had been bothering the Brazilian and keeping him from practicing properly. Hypolito, one of Brazil's top medal contenders in the London Games, had similar surgery on his right knee before the Beijing Games.
