Emmons qualifies in two events

FORT BENNING, Ga. -- Matt Emmons qualified for the Athens
Olympics in a second event Thursday when he finished first in prone
rifle at the U.S. shooting trials.

Emmons, from Browns Mills, N.J., qualified in air rifle last
Sunday. If he finishes in the top two in three-position rifle this
weekend, he could compete in three events at the Olympics.

Mike Anti of Winterville, N.C., also qualified for Athens by
finishing second in prone rifle with a score of 1,996.6, more than
two points behind Emmons. Anti, a major in the U.S. Army
Marksmanship Unit, also competed in the 2000 and 1992 Olympics.

Emily Caruso of Fairfield, Conn., who missed a spot on the 2000
Olympic team by less than a point, won the women's air rifle event
with a 1,397.2 score. She'll be joined by Hattie Johnson (Athol,
Idaho), who finished second with 1,389.6.

Johnson is a specialist in
the USAMU.
