Susanne Riesch to miss ski season

MUNICH -- German skier Susanne Riesch, the younger sister of defending overall Women's World Cup champion Maria Riesch, is recovering from knee surgery that will sideline her for the season.

Riesch tore ligaments in her left knee and fractured her shin in a fall during downhill training in Nevados de Chillan, Chile, in September.

Riesch told reporters Wednesday at a Munich clinic that the surgery went well and that she "can stand up already."

It was the second surgery for the German skier.
