LONDON -- The United States men's water polo team has drawn defending Olympic champions Hungary in group play at the London Games.
The U.S., which lost to Hungary in the gold-medal match at the 2008 Beijing Games, are also grouped with Montenegro, Serbia, Romania and hosts Great Britain in Group B. Serbia defeated Montenegro for the bronze medal at Beijing.
The U.S. women, who were beaten by the Netherlands in the gold-medal match at Beijing, were placed with Hungary, Spain and China in Group A of the women's draw.
FINA, the governing body for water polo, held the draw for the men's and women's tournaments on Tuesday in London.
Hungary and Serbia, which have 21 world titles and 18 Olympic golds between them, are the favorites in the men's competition.
Greece, Italy, Kazakhstan, Spain, Australia and Croatia were drawn into Group A in the men's field.
Among the women's favorites are the winners of the first two women's Olympic golds -- Australia in 2000 and Italy in 2004. Both teams were drawn in Group B, with Great Britain and Russia.
The Olympic water polo tournament runs from July 29 to Aug. 12 at Water Polo Arena, in Olympic Park in east London.
