Galabin Boevski accused in Brazil

SOFIA, Bulgaria -- Former Olympic weightlifting champion Galabin Boevski has been detained in Brazil and accused of carrying 20 pounds of cocaine in his luggage.

Bulgaria's foreign ministry said in a statement Thursday its embassy in Brazil was informed by federal police that Boevski had the drugs when he tried to board a plane at Sao Paulo's international airport.

If found guilty in Brazil, he could face up to 15 years in prison.

The 36-year-old Boevski won the gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics in the 152-pound category. He was banned for eight years by the International Weightlifting Federation for doping in 2004.
