Love it or hate it, you'll have to have a lot of money to get your hands on one of the sweaters that look like the ones worn by the U.S. Olympic team at the opening ceremony in Sochi last week.
Four sweaters that sold on eBay over the past week averaged a winning bid of $3,100. The only extra-large sweater that was sold on the auction site had 43 bids and went for $4,850.
Two weeks before the games, official outfitter Ralph Lauren released 324 individually numbered, limited edition sweaters with American flags and stars on them. The sweaters retailed for $595 and sold out before anyone even saw the team enter Fischt Stadium on Feb. 7. That forced those who really wanted one to go to eBay.
Ralph Lauren made all of its gear in the United States for these Olympics after furor erupted over the fact the U.S. uniforms for the 2012 London Games were produced in Asia.
A Ralph Lauren official did not immediately respond when asked if the company left money on the table by not producing more sweaters.
