CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Bass Pro Shops and Earnhardt Ganassi Racing will be honoring racing legend Dale Earnhardt's induction into the NASCAR Hall of Fame at this weekend's race at Talladega Superspeedway.
The Bass Pro Shops #1 Chevrolet will feature the same design and black and gold paint scheme that was first used by Earnhardt in the 1998 All Star Race and was a salute to conservation and the American outdoorsman.
Bass Pro Shops driver Jamie McMurray will drive the car that commemorates the 10th anniversary of Dale's 76th and last Cup victory at Talladega before his untimely death.
The announcement and unveiling was made back in May at a special press conference held at the Charlotte Motor Speedway and hosted by NASCAR driver Kenny Wallace. Those present at the special announcement included Bass Pro Shops Founder Johnny Morris, Steve Lauletta President of Earnhardt Ganassi Racing, Jeff Steiner Executive Vice President of Dale Earnhardt Inc., Taylor Earnhardt, Kerry Earnhardt, and NASCAR driver Jamie McMurray.
"For everybody at Bass Pro Shops this is an extra special moment to be able to do this salute to Dale. He was a remarkable person and he would be proud of his family and how they've turned out," Morris said. "Dale, Richard and I spent a lot of time out fishing and hunting together. When you spend time with somebody outdoors, you really get to know them."
"It is an honor for me to get to drive this car as a tribute to Dale and at the track where he won his last race," McMurray said. "I never got to meet Dale but my dad always pulled for him. To me he will always be the Intimidator."
"I remember watching dad drive the car at Charlotte," Dale's daughter Taylor said. "I am looking forward to seeing it race again."
Dale Earnhardt fans will be excited to know that diecast cars, T-shirts, caps, and more commemorating the car and Dale are available at Bass Pro Shops stores, on their web site and in their catalogs as well as other retailers nationwide.
