The boys were back and had a rookie with them this time. OK only a rookie when it comes to hunting. Dale Earnhardt Jr. has a rich hunting heritage but up until this year he had very little experience at hunting. Earlier this year friend and fellow driver Martin Truex, Jr. took Dale to Bass Pro Shops and outfitted him with a bow. As Dale began to practice, encouragement came from cousin and crew chief Tony Eury, Jr. Soon Dale was right on target and started looking forward to the hunt.
This hunt took place after the Fall race at Texas Motor Speedway. Dale was joined by his brother Kerry, Truex, and Eury, Jr., for a four day hunt in Oklahoma. Beginners luck was on Dale's side as he harvested his first buck with a bow the first afternoon. It was cool to see someone bitten by the bug the hunting bug. Dale Jr. was fired up and excited to get back into the woods. The next morning he shot a nice hen turkey.
The hunt was filled with lots of laughs and jokes. They hunted hard, shot their bows every chance they got and stayed up late shooting pool. Very little was seen that week due to weather and the acorn crop that kept the big ones away from the food plots. But they had a lot of fun and when the hunt was over it was apparent that Dale Earnhardt, Jr. will be following in his father's footsteps that lead to the woods each Fall.
