Campanello, 21, wins razz event

Event 33 offered a heads-up battle between a young WSOP Circuit grinder and a veteran WSOP champion. Bryan Campanello had quite a year on the Circuit with one victory and a fourth-place finish in the Choctaw main event. At age 21, his live professional career is just starting, and two weeks ago, he cashed in the WSOP for the first time. Sitting across the table is the "Gunslinger" David Bach who has accomplished much throughout his career. He won the $50,000 HORSE event in 2009, finished 45th in the main event in 2011 and his first cash came in 1997 … when Campanello was just 5.

No matter the discrepancy in experience, when it truly mattered, Campanello had the advantage in chips. After he eliminated Jim Wheatley in third, he held around a 3:1 edge over Bach and after a little over an hour of heads-up play, Campanello defeated his final opponent to receive his first career bracelet, $178,052 and an outpouring of love from his rail.

"Finished 2nd," said Bach on Twitter. "Very frustrated, but happy with the effort to get heads up. I could never get above 800k in the heads-up."

Since his HORSE victory, Bach has 11 cashes including two seconds and one third.

Campanello began the final table third in chips, but never lost the top spot once he eliminated Ivan Schertzer in fifth. He earned some big pots against Bach and Sebastian Pauli and had more than half the chips in play four-handed. Jim Wheatley knocked out Pauli before falling to Campanello, and by that point, the WSOP rookie was in control and well on his way to victory.

This was the only razz event on the 2013 schedule and the field of 301 was down only eight players compared to when Phil Hellmuth won the event in 2012.

Other notable finishers include Max Pescatori (22nd), Billy Baxter (24th), Archie Karas (26th) and Huck Seed (28th).
