Clayton expands ESPN duties to include

Noted ESPN NFL reporter John Clayton has joined as senior writer, providing columns, feature stories and chats with users. In addition to covering the NFL on a daily basis for, he will continue to contribute reports to ESPN's Sunday pre-game show, NFL Countdown, and SportsCenter's Inside the Huddle. Clayton will also continue to serve as an NFL reporter on ESPN Radio Network programs such as The NFL on ESPN Radio and NFL Draft programming. is part of Walt Disney Internet Group (NYSE: DIG).

One of Clayton's first initiatives was "Clayton Across America," ( which began July 19 as Clayton embarked on a 28-day trip of all 31 NFL team training camps. While on the trip, he provides columns and notes from the camps as well as city-by-city postcards. His journey culminates in Nashville for the August 14 Rams-Titans preseason game.

Clayton served as the NFL and Seattle Seahawks beat writer for the Tacoma News Tribune from 1986 to 1998 and an NFL correspondent for The Sporting News from 1980 to 1998. He began his writing career at the Pittsburgh Press as the NFL and the Pittsburgh Steelers beat writer from 1980 to 1986. Clayton continues to serve as a talk show host on KJR Radio in Seattle.
