NASCAR, whose top series competed in Tennessee this week and will race in South Carolina and Virginia in the coming weeks, put out a statement on worldwide events fueled by hate. NASCAR President Brent Dewar: "NASCAR brings fans of all different backgrounds and points of view together to celebrate one thing they all have in common – a love for NASCAR. We are saddened by recent tragic events around the world and feel strongly there is no place for bigotry, racism, hatred or violence in our society."

Erik Jones battled Matt Kenseth for spots late in the Bristol race as they ended up seeing Kyle Busch pull away for the win. Jones is replacing Kenseth at Joe Gibbs Racing after this season, but Jones said he didn't think about that as they rubbed fenders.

Erik Jones will start from the pole today and is one of 15 drivers in the field today who pretty much face must-win situations in the next three races if they want to make the 16-driver playoff field. Among the others: Joey Logano (starting eighth), Daniel Suarez (12th), Chris Buescher (15th), David Ragan (19th), Trevor Bayne (20th), Danica Patrick (24th), Aric Almirola (28th) and Dale Earnhardt Jr. (31st).

Cole Whitt crew chief Frankie Kerr said he suffered a broken right scapula, a severely bruised sternum and bruised ribs after the 3,300-pound car fell off a jackstand on top of him Friday while he was underneath it at Bristol. He was released from the hospital Friday afternoon and said he will perform his duties but do less work on the car today. Kerr, a former sprint-car driver, said: "It landed on me and basically squeezed the air out of me. ... It's no different than [my injuries in] old Saturday night racing."
