CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Bobby Labonte will replace the driver who replaced him in Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Michigan International Speedway.
The 2000 Sprint Cup champion will drive the No. 51 for Phoenix Racing that became available when AJ Allmendinger was announced to drive the No. 47 for JTG/Daugherty Racing this weekend, according to the official entry list.
Allmendinger could drive up to five unsponsored races for JTG -- he also is scheduled for the Aug. 11 road course race at Watkins Glen -- with Labonte expected to return for the rest of the schedule. Labonte's deal with Phoenix Racing at this point is for one race.
Labonte, 49, is 27th in the standings with a season-best finish of 15th in the Daytona 500. He is in his third season with JTG. In 2010, he drove in 14 races for Phoenix Racing owner James Finch.
Labonte has started 702 consecutive races, one shy of the current active streak held by Jeff Gordon.
Former Formula 1 driver Jacques Villeneuve, who has driven in three Cup events, is expected to drive the 51 the following week on the road course in Sonoma, Calif. Labonte will be back in the 47 for that race.
