NHRA Power Rankings: Las Vegas

Top Fuel driver Doug Kalitta roared to victory at the Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla., on March 16. Justin Tooley/USA TODAY Sports

Before every event of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, ESPN analyst Mike Dunn will rank the top three drivers -- and riders on weekends the Pro Stock Motorcycle crew competes -- in each category. Up this week? The SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Top Fuel

1. Doug Kalitta
2. Antron Brown
3. Shawn Langdon

Kalitta is not No. 1 solely because of his win in Gainesville, Fla. He has had the most consistently fast car the the first three races of this year, which you could probably say going back to the beginning of last season. One to watch would be Steve Torrance. With three straight semis and a good, consistent race car, he could definitely end up in the winner's circle.

Funny Car

1. John Force
2. Robert Hight
3. Ron Capps

It's hard to believe that as inconsistent Force has been he is still at the top of the rankings based on my three-race formula. That team just keeps fighting it out, and even though they don't have the consistency of a Doug Kalitta, it keeps winning rounds. One to watch is Courtney Force. Since struggling at the start of the season she has gotten better each race.

Pro Stock

1. Allen Johnson
2. Erica Enders-Stevens
3. Jason Line

I really wanted to put Enders-Stevens first because she had the best car in Gainesville. But had Johnson not had that huge starting-line mishap in Pomona he might have been undefeated heading into Vegas. His car is that good. When you add in the fact that he is the defending event champion and the defending K&N Challenge champion, how could I not put him at the top of the rankings?
