Center Jordy Lipsey commits to Virginia

Considered the nation's top center prospect, offensive lineman Jordy Lipsey of Altamonte Springs-Lake Brantley, Fla., has chosen Virginia over Miami-Florida. Among many others were Stanford, Florida State, Florida and Tennessee.

Virginia Tech has a soft commitment from defensive lineman Carlton Powell of Chesapeake-Great Bridge, Va., over interest from Virginia, East Carolina, Maryland and North Carolina.

Arkansas has withdrawn its offer to 345-pound offensive lineman Kharylake Martin of Dayton, Tex. He is now considering LSU, SMU, Tennessee and Texas A&M, among others.

The Wisconsin Badgers pledged receiver/defensive back Ernest Mason of Fort Worth-Dunbar, Tex., over Oklahoma, Arkansas, LSU, Iowa, Texas Tech, Kansas and Vanderbilt, among others. Mason has been timed in the 40-yard dash at 4.3 seconds. He has run the 100 meters in 10.2 and 200 in 20.9.

Receiver Seth Fogerty of Morgantown, WVa., committed to UConn over Penn State, UCLA, West Virginia and Marshall. He caught 74 passes for 1094 yards as a junior.

Top News:
Richmond gained a commitment from outstanding guard Daon Merritt of Queens/Bronx-St. Raymond's, NY., over Pittsburgh and Providence.

Guard Wesley Washington of Santa Ana-Mater Dei, Cal., who originally committed to California, has given a tenative verbal to the Minnesota Gophers.

Forward Dan Fitzgerald of Mendota Heights-St. Thomas Academy, Minn., has committed to Tulane over interest from Boston College, Bowling Green, Rice, Stanford, West Virginia, Marquette, Minnesota and Notre Dame.

Louisville leads the Early Top Classes.

Bowling Green pledged guard/forward Reggie Harwell of East Cleveland-Shaw, Ohio, over Marshall. The Falcons recently gained center Matt Lefeld of Coldwater, Ohio, over Air Force, Drake, Buffalo, Evansville, Wisconsin-Green Bay and Bucknell.

Oregon State pledged forward Jeff Williams of Portland-Roosevelt, Ore.

Akron pledged forward Jeremiah Woods of Akron/Central-Hower, Ohio.
