Iowa, Arkansas, Oklahoma nab top commits

One of the nation's top linebackers, Kyle Williams of Bolingbrook, Ill., has committed to the Iowa Hawkeyes and coach Kirk Ferentz over 40 other offers, including Miami-Florida, Oregon, Purdue, Southern California, Ohio State, Kansas State, UCLA, Nebraska and Oklahoma, among others. The Hawks recently gained receiver/defensive back Andy Brodell of Ankeny, Ia., over offers from Pittsburgh and Iowa State.

Touted double-sport standout Marcus Monk of Lepanto-East Poinsett County, Ark., has accepted a football scholarship at Arkansas and will also play basketball. Monk, a receiver/forward, was also considering Boston College, Mississippi, Stanford, Penn State and Arkansas State, among many others. He averaged 25.8 points and 15.7 rebounds as a junior in basketball, and had 52 receptions for 1104 yards and 19 touchdowns in football.

The Oklahoma Sooners have a commitment from outstanding receiver Quentin Chaney of Tulsa-Booker T. Washington, Okla., over Arkansas, Nebraska, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Tennessee, Southern California, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Colorado and Missouri, among others.

Offensive lineman Gurminder Thind of Mississauga, Ont., has accepted a verbal offer to play for South Carolina.

The Arizona Wildcats have a commitment from offensive lineman Daniel Espinoza of Los Alamitos, Cal.

Duke has pledged linebacker Zach Smith of Buford, Ga.

Colorado State has a commitment from running back Michael Myers of Riverside-King, Cal.

UConn has a commitment from defensive back Tyvon Branch of Cicero/Cicero-North Syracuse, NY.
