Hoosiers, Horns are Signing Day heavyweights

It's the Early Signing Period, as Texas and Indiana lead the 2004 Top Classes.

Or Indiana and Texas, take your choice. The Longhorns and coach Rick Barnes have four Top 100 players and a Super Prospect, including three Top 20 prospects, for a slight edge. Indiana and coach Mike Davis have five Top 100 prospects heading for the Hoosiers.

Among the other leading programs are Louisville, Arkansas, Duke, Memphis, North Carolina, Florida, Missouri and UCLA. Georgia Tech, Connecticut, Kansas, Alabama, Mississippi State are also gaining powerful classes. Rankings are subject to change with additions, qualifying problems and the NBA Draft. Redshirt transfers are counted on Class 2003 scholarships.

The Early Signing Period runs Nov. 12-19 and the Regular Period is Apr. 15-May 19. Check lists for Prospects/Commitments/Signings/Schools and Conferences.

Ninety prospects on the early Class 2004 Top 100 have already made commitments. List of remaining Top 100 Prospects.

Remaining Top 100 Prospects likely to sign during Early Period:
Guard Joe Crawford of Detroit-Renaissance, Mich., who decommitted from Michigan, between the Wolverines and Kentucky.
Forward Davis Nwankwo of College Park-Georgetown Prep, Md., between Arizona, Stanford, Virginia, Georgia Tech and Miami-Florida.
Guard Kyle Lowry of Philadelphia-Cardinal Dougherty, Pa., between Arkansas and Villanova.

The Arizona Wildcats have added guard Daniel Dillon of Australia/London-North Laurel, Kty.

Center/forward Craig Austin of Oceanside-El Camino, Cal., has chosen Arizona State over interest from Texas Tech and Santa Clara.

Rutgers has guard Manny Quezada of Washington, DC-St. Albans, over Providence.

New Mexico has gained forward Bambale Osby of Richmond-Benedictine, Va., over Virginia Tech, Boston University, Western Kentucky, Howard and Georgia State.

Cal Poly added guard Derek Stockalper of Carlsbad, Cal/University of San Diego/Mira Costa CC, Cal.

Southern Utah has guard/forward Gabe Freeman of Tempe-McClintock, Ariz.

Eastern Washington has a promising guard in Rodney Stuckey of Kent-Kentwood, Wash., over Washington and Washington State.

Citadel has center Demetrius Nelson of John's Island-St. John's, SC; and forward Warren McClendon of Dublin-West Laurens, Ga.

Florida Atlantic gained guard Tywain McTyer of Las Vegas-Durango, Nev.
